Ses craintes se confirment lorsque le médecin–légiste de la morgue lui apprend que le cadavre d'Eric a disparu. Convoquée sur place, elle est interrogée par Hagerstrom et Julio Verdad, deux policiers qui la soupçonnent d'avoir subtilisé le corps pour éviter une autopsie. Leur méfiance est de courte durée : la découverte d'un meurtre horrible et le témoignage d'une adolescente attestent qu'Eric Leben est devenu une monstrueuse créature... Cette histoire d'un docteur qui s'est injecté un sérum d'immortalité débouche sur des poursuites hallucinantes entre ceux qui souhaitent récupérer son secret et la police qui veut le mettre hors d'état de nuire.
